Learn to cook authentic Greek food on a beautiful island off the usual tourist trail. Authentic because this is food prepared in a traditional way which our Greek customers come from miles around to sample and authentic because this is the region where the very best of ingredients are reared, grown and caught. During the trip guests will have plenty of free time to relax by the pool, wander down to the beach for a swim, or walking around the quaint mountain villages. We will also go on 2 excursions to the neighbouring island of Aegina to buy fresh food and for a tour. Accommodation is included during the week along with access to our lovely pool, plus lots of tasty meals. After the trip you will have lots of lovely recipes to take home!

There can be no better way to spend a week than on this Greek cooking holiday on the beautiful small island of Agistri, below is a detailed itinerary of what to expect during the week:

DAY 1 – Tuesday
You will be collected from the port of Agistri (Milos) and driven to the hotel, about a mile away in the seaside village of Skala, where you will be introduced to the chef and staff at the hotel and restaurant and, over a welcome drink, be briefed about your itinerary and activities for the week. Evening meal in the restaurant.

DAY 2 – Wednesday
After breakfast by the pool a short hop by speed boat to the neighbouring island of Aigina where you will be taken to the fish market to see the variety of sea food available in the area and buy fish which you will be shown how prepare and cook later in the day. Try some mezzes in the fisherman’s taverna in the market. You will also have a chance to sample and buy the produce for which the island is famous – pistachio nuts, jams, sideritis (Greek mountain tea), honey – and fruit from the floating market. Back in Agistri, you will have time for a break before your first lesson – cooking the produce you have brought back with you and eating it with some more of the local wine. Dinner in the evening in our restaurant – a fish supper although alternatives are available.

DAY 3 – Thursday
The second cookery lesson follows breakfast. You will learn from our chef to cook some of the local Greek delicacies. Lunch will comprise the food you have cooked, helped down with wine from this area of Greece. The afternoon will be free for you to sleep of your lunch or perhaps to explore some of the beaches. In the evening dinner by the pool.

DAY 4 – Friday
Breakfast by the pool, before a trip in the speed boat to Aigina – this time a chance to explore more of the historica island. A coach will be waiting for you at the port to take you on a tour of the island – including the ruined Byzantine city of Paliochora, the Temple of Apaia, Greece’s most complete Doric temple, dating from 500BC, and the monastery of Agios Nektarios. Time for a coffee on the port before the boat trip back to Agistri. In the evening share in a traditional barbecue – lamb, beef, chicken, pork and sausage – and traditional Greek music.

DAY 5 – Saturday
The third cookery lesson follows breakfast. Lunch will once more be comprised of the food you have cooked, helped down with local wine. In the evening dinner by the pool.

DAY 6 – Sunday
Enjoy your breakfast by the hotel pool. Afterwards Captain Takis, accompanied a member of the hotel staff, will take you on the hotel’s speed boat on a trip around our beautiful wooded island, stopping for refreshments and a swim the clear blue water of the lagoon at Aponisos on the rugged south west coast. On your return spend the afternoon exploring the village or wandering to the mountain village of Metochi with its views of the Saronik Gulf and out towards the Cyclades islands.

DAY 7 – Monday
A day at leisure to enjoy the island and, if you wish, make your last trips to the shops and markets.

DAY 8 – Tuesday
Breakfast and departure. You will be driven to Milos for your boat transfer to Piraeus.
